Furiosa: Why Anya Taylor-Joy didn't ask Charlize Theron for advice
The actress reveals that she called her eldest only AFTER filming her scenes…
In March, George Miller revealed in Empire that Furiosa: A Mad Max saga would be “an animal different from Fury Road“. On the cover of the magazine with her acting partner Chris Hemsworth, the young actress Anya Taylor-Joyexplained how much she loved this heroine before her played by Charlize Theron. Asked about their passing of the torch, she replied:
“She was so classy, she was kind enough to let me know that I could go. I felt so lucky reading that script. I felt like I knew this person. I I immediately felt that I had a duty to protect Furiosa and defend her interests.”
Mad Max Fury Road: “In the end, it was Furiosa's film”, recognizes Tom Hardy
We could understand that the two actresses had spoken to each other about the role before filming this prequel to Fury Roadbut Anya Taylor-Joy now reveals Entertainment Weekly that this is not the case: they actually only discussed the role after the end of shooting. A way to avoid being too influenced? In order to find “her” Furiosa? And how had Charlize let him know that she “could go” if they didn't talk to each other? By way of director George Miller, perhaps? The latter in any case justified the absence of “digital rejuvenation“ for her blockbuster, preferring to choose a younger actress for the same role rather than “to crash” with a special effect that does not have “still proves itself”.
“You have to make your own way with Furiosa, explains the 28-year-old actress in turn. But as soon as we finished, I did everything I could to reach her, because I'm a big fan of Charlize. Not just as an actress, also as a person. She was as wonderful and cool as you could hope for, she was really supportive. She has class. I appreciated his reaction.”
Furiosa will soon be screened (out of competition) as part of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. It will be released in cinemas on May 22 and his first opinions are very positive. Here is its trailer:
