Clayface: the DC Universe horror film unveils its trailer

Clayface performs well at the US box office, Street Fighter falls flat

The DC horror film got off to a better-than-expected start with $24 million in revenue. Nathan Fielder’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes leaps as Street Fighter plummets.

No reason to be upset about DC.

Clayfacethe new DC film directed by James Watkins, takes the lead at the US box office with an estimated $24 million debut this weekend, in 3,450 theaters across the country.

A result superior to expectations for this film body horrorwhich frankly moves away from the usual codes of comic book adaptations. Its global launch is expected to reach $50 million.

Distributed by Warner Bros., the feature film enjoyed an encouraging reception, both from critics and spectators. Enough to hope for a good career for this production with an announced budget of 40 million dollars, significantly less expensive than traditional superhero blockbusters.

Clayface However, it remains far from the start of previous films in the new DC universe. Released in July 2025, Supermandirected by James Gunn, grossed $125 million in its first North American weekend. He ultimately finished his career with $354.2 million in the United States and $618.7 million worldwide. The journey of Supergirlreleased in the summer of 2026, turned out to be much more modest. The film opened with $37.1 million in North America, before ending its run at $72.4 million domestically and $126.5 million worldwide. Clayface therefore starts less strongly than the two previous DC films, but its more contained budget and its horrific positioning offer it a different economic equation.

DC rides the horror wave

The potential success of Clayface is also part of a trend very favorable to horror cinema. In recent months, Scream 7, Obsession, Backrooms And resident Evilwithout forgetting more recently Evilhelped maintain public interest in the genre. With its body horror approach, Clayface seems to have found a way to take advantage of this dynamic without abandoning its identity as a superhero film. The good feedback from spectators could allow it to continue beyond its launch weekend. The calendar also offers an ideal opportunity to extend this dynamic: Halloween falls next Saturday, October 31, a period traditionally conducive to horror releases…

Nathan Fielder’s crazy documentary up 30%

If Clayface does not have to be ashamed of its launch, it is always You Can See Everything which caused a sensation across the Atlantic. The A24 documentary dedicated to Elizabeth Holmes, fallen founder of Theranos. After an already remarkable start with 15.6 million dollars in only 855 theaters, the film by Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder triples its distribution and takes advantage of this extension to 2,655 cinemas to jump at the box office: almost 20 million dollars for its second weekend, an increase of almost 30% compared to its launch! Its American total could thus reach 48 to 50 million dollars in ten days. An exceptional trajectory for a documentary, driven by curiosity around the Theranos affair and by particularly favorable word of mouth.

The animated film Wildwood takes the podium

On the third step of the podium, Wildwood: The Forest Prophecythe new stop-motion animated film from studio Laika, is expected to gross around $11 million. An encouraging start for the studio behind The Boxtrolls And Kubo and the Magic Armorabove initial forecasts. The result is even close to that of The Island of Memoriesanother recent animated release, which took in $13 million in its first weekend. Wildwood will be released on December 6 in France in cinemas.

Good debut for Olivia Colman and Wicker

Among the new features of the weekend, there is also Wickera black costume comedy by Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård. The film grossed almost $6 million in 1,471 theaters. Initially financed by Topic Studios before its acquisition by Black Bear at Sundance, this feature film aimed at an adult audience had a respectable launch.

Street Fighter is (already) breaking his face

The situation is much less encouraging for Street Fighter. After leading the box office last weekend with an estimated $30.8 million, the film fell 74% for its second weekend, with just another $8.5 million from 3,575 theaters.

Its North American cumulative total exceeds 46 million dollars in ten days, for global revenues estimated at around 80 million. A worrying result for a production whose budget would be around $82 million, without even counting marketing expenses. The fall is spectacular and more marked than that of Mortal Kombat 2which was down 65% in its second weekend in May before ending its American run at $79.8 million. The two films seem to have attracted a significant part of their audience from the first days, with attendance then difficult to maintain.

Flop for Taika Waititi and Jenna Ortega

Another disappointment of the weekend: Klara and the sun. Taika Waititi’s new film, received by catastrophic returns, only debuted in 15th place at the US box office, with only $720,000 in revenue in a very small 880 theaters. That’s not much for the Oscar-winning director who worked for Marvel. But faced with particularly harsh reviews, Sony reduced distribution. Fortunately for the studio, this adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, published in 2021, would have only cost around $20 million. Box office losses should therefore remain limited. But the blow is hard for Jenna Ortega, star of Wednesdaywho is struggling to break into the cinema, after the flops of Hurry Up Tomorrow Or Death of a Unicorn last year.
