La Gradiva told by co-writer Anne Brouillet
Anne Brouillet looks back on her long-term collaboration with director Marine Atlan and the writing of this first feature, the story of a school trip to Naples and Pompeii, which has won over the public since its release on Wednesday
FIRST: When and how did you meet Marine Atlan?
ANNE BROUILLET: We met at FEMIS, around fifteen years ago. Marine was in the images department, me in the script department. So we know each other very well and we are used to working with each other. I co-write his films, Marine does the images for my short films. This is the third film we’ve written together. There is something fluid and familial in our collaboration
Do you remember the first time she told you about La Gradiva ?
Yes, it dates back to 2022 when she decided to take on an order from Arte who wanted to relaunch their collection of films from the 90s “ All boys and girls their age » around adolescence. The project was not completed but Marine decided to embark on what would become La Gradivaa chronicle on the youth of 2026
What immediately appeals to you about this project?
Above all, being able to work with Marine again. She immediately arrived with a file containing quite a few images to translate what she had in mind. The idea of an ensemble film built on many layers – of stories and civilizations – with Vesuvius overlooking everything with its beauty as fascinating as it is threatening.
