An impressive new trailer for the new Resident Evil movie
Zach Cregger, director of Barbarian in 2022 and Vanished in 2025, updates the old zombific license.
Is this time the right one?
The games resident Evil return to the dark rooms for yet another adaptation. After a host of disappointing (even questionable) films, this 2026 version takes a long distance from Capcom’s horror franchise.
This resident Evil 2026 live-action will offer a new story: Bryan, a medical courier, finds himself trapped in the heart of a nightmarish night while he has to make a delivery to the Racoon City hospital. The problem is that when it arrives, everything is devastated, as evidenced by the impressive new trailer released online today.
Austin Abrams (seen in Euphoria) takes on the role of the young hero who asked for nothing, stuck in an infested city, forced to escape a horde of rampaging mutant zombies. The video promises a more raw and immersive rereading of the saga, in the survival horror spirit of the original games. But without Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, or any character from the games.
For this really scary shift, the studio relied on the new darling of the genre: Zach Cregger, who stood out with Barbarous in 2022 and which was a hit in 2025 with Faintedhad his hands free to resume resident Evil in his sauce.
He directed and co-wrote the film with Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4). The cast is rounded out by Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser.
This new resident Evil in theaters in France on September 16.
