Written and directed by Frenchman Florian Zeller, Oscar winner for best adapted screenplay for The Fatherthe film also brings together Stephen Graham, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Paul Dano.
The official synopsis states: “A renowned architect is asked to design, in the greatest secrecy, a survival bunker for a billionaire convinced that the end of the world is near. As he becomes seduced by this morally ambiguous project, his wife begins to question their marriage. After seventeen years of living together, do they still have the same values? The same aspirations? The same dreams?“
Bunker has just been announced in official competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival. The film will also be presented a few days later at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz have often played together since they met on the set of Ham, Ham by Bigas Luna (1992). Having become one of the most emblematic couples in world cinema, they were again seen very complicit this summer in the stands of the 2026 World Cup final, coming to support Spain.
Bunker is expected in theaters in 2027.
