Martin Scorsese no longer goes to the cinema because of the spectators
Telephones, snacks and sodas were right for the director. For him, it’s over!
When you see a film in theaters, you never know who … and Martin Scorsese no longer supports the nuisances of its neighbors.
The legendary director revealed to the film critic Peter Travers – Who comes to launch his own blog, The Travers Take – Do not go to the dark rooms of his city in New York. According to him, experience has lost his magic because of the distractions: constant use of phones, disrespectful chatter, and an increasing contempt for the collective nature of a projection.
For someone like Scorsese, who sees cinema as a sacred shape, seeing a phone screen lighting up in a dark room is unbearable. Pete tells his exchange with the filmmaker:
“I asked the maestro why he couldn’t see any more movies in theaters, in the cinema. And he went to” raging bull “mode about spectators who chat on the phone during the sessions, go out to buy snacks and soda buckets, and make a boucan such that we no longer hear the actors ….”
Taken aback by the response of Martin Scoresethe journalist tries to alleviate his pessimistic vision of the room: “Come on, Marty! When we were kids, we couldn’t be silent …“But the director does not give up. Times have changed: “Maybe … But when we talked, it was always about the film, and the pleasure we had to dissect the smallest details!”
Still, today, Scorse No longer needs multiplexes. He has his own projection room in his New York house dedicated to the cinema, filled with vintage posters, filming memories, and a large screen that broadcasts black and white classics. His beautiful house even has an office on the fifth floor with another projection room and a large video library. He considers this space as essential since 2007, a place that allows him to program and review films in the best possible conditions.
