My mother, God and Sylvie Vartan: the trailer with Leïla Bekhti and Jonathan Cohen
Ken Scott, the director of Starbuck, has created a poignant comedy-drama about maternal love.
After the series The Flame And The Torchthe duo Leila Bekhti And Jonathan Cohen finds itself reunited on the poster of the next film by Canadian Ken Scott (Starbucks): My mother, God and Sylvie Vartan. Inspired by a true story and based on the biographical novel by Roland Perez released in 2021, the film tells the journey of a mother and her son suffering from a malformation.
Esther is the mother of a large family. When she gave birth to her last child, Roland, the doctors told her that he would never be able to walk because of his clubfoot. However, she promises her son that he will be like the others and that he will have a fabulous life. She will do everything possible to keep this word… Even if it means buying everything she finds on her son’s idol, the singer Sylvie Vartan.
The trailer shows us a Leïla Bekhti more determined than ever. The film spans several decades of ordeals, while Roland, first played by Naïm Naji, becomes an adult. Even when the actress All that glitters is transformed into an elderly woman, she always remains (too) present alongside Jonathan Cohen. A bit overprotective, Esther seems to have difficulty cutting the cord.
This is not the first time that Leïla Bekhti has played a role of this kind. In Léa Todorov’s first film, The new womanshe played a famous Parisian courtesan, Lili d’Alengy, mother of a disabled daughter, at the beginning of the 20th century.
The cast is completed by Milo Machado Graner (Anatomy of a fall), Jeanne Balibar (Barbara), Joséphine Japy (Breathe) and even Sylvie Vartan. If Alexandra and Marc had made us die of laughter, Esther and Roland risk moving us. The film will be available in theaters from March 19. Trailer:
