Naomi Watts pays tribute to David Lynch by inaugurating his star on the Walk of Fame

“He saw things in me that I hadn’t seen myself.”

Naomi Watts became the 2825th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday. Her husband Billy Crudup, Edward Norton, Sarah Paulson, Jack Black Ryan Murphy and Gore Verbinski were present to attend the ceremony, where the actress paid a new vibrant tribute to David Lynch.

The actress notably returned to their meeting, decisive for her career with her revelation in Mulholland Drive. A moving moment, but also funny when Naomi Watts launched into an imitation of Lynch at the end of her speech:

For months I did these castings where I could barely get eye contact or a handshake. It was different. This director looked me in the eyes, and he was radiant. He looked so happy to be there with me. It soothed me immediately. It was an exchange and I was in no rush to leave. He brought out the best in me and he saw things in me that I hadn’t seen myself. I learned from him what it meant to be an actor. He lived a few blocks from here. And it comforts me to know that he will be a neighbor here in spirit. David was a true mentor. Someone I could always ask for. He called me his pumpkin. When I did King Kong he said to me: ‘Naomi, whoever sits in King Kong’s hand becomes a movie star for life‘. Maybe he was talking about that“.

Naomi Watts will soon star in Ryan Murphy’s new series, All’s Faira legal drama about a team of divorce lawyers where she stars alongside Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close. The first three episodes will be available on November 4 on Disney Plus in France.
