It's official: Nicolas Cage is no longer called Coppola

Nicolas Cage confirms: he will carry season 5 of True Detective

The actor revealed at New York Comic Con that he is set to headline the next season of the HBO series, set in Jamaica Bay, New York. But the channel has not yet made it official.

Yes, Nicolas Cage will be the next True Detective investigator.

The actor spilled the beans on Saturday during his visit to New York Comic Con.

Invited to a meeting with the public, the star of Spider-Noir announced that he was thinking of joining season 5 of the HBO detective series, after True Detective: Night Country, worn by Jodie Foster.

“I think I’ll probably do a season of television again. I think I might do a season of True Detective,” he told fans, before adding, to applause:

“It’s okay if I’m the one to announce it first, right?”

The actor even slipped in a little thought for his agent, suggesting that he must have choked upon hearing these revelations: “My agent is somewhere listening to me…”

It must be said that HBO has not yet confirmed the news. But rumors surrounding the arrival of Nicolas Cage in the series have been circulating since last August. According to Variety, this fifth season should take place in the Jamaica Bay area of New York. However, the actor assured in May that he did not know where the project really stood.

This possible participation would mark a new foray by Nicolas Cage into television, after a career largely dominated by cinema. The actor also mentions a very pragmatic reason for this change of pace: “We cannot make films non-stop. Necessity is the mother of invention. (…) What do I mean by necessity? Feed the family, and not make too many films in a row.”

True Detective season 5 does not yet have a date.
