Pathé and Vendôme Pictures join forces to produce major international films
Following the success of CODA, the two companies launched Emotion Pictures with the ambition of telling “original, commercial and universally resonant stories.”
The filming ofIbelinwith Charlie Plummer, Stephen Graham and Toni Collette, started a few days ago in Oslo. This drama, inspired by the true story of a young Norwegian suffering from a serious illness who became a star of the video game World of Warcraft, will be the first film produced under the Emotion Pictures banner, an ambitious new structure unveiled this week by Pathé and Vendôme Pictures which will also benefit from the support of Merit France, the Saada family holding company.
The objective? Reconnect with the great popular cinema of the 80s and 90s by developing English-language films to reach an international audience.
“Emotion Pictures reflects the long and fruitful relationship between Pathé and Jérôme Seydoux, alongside Rodolphe Saadé and Merit. Together we share the same passion for stories and cinema“, declares Philippe Rousselet, founder of Vendôme Pictures. “Emotion Pictures will be the home for filmmakers to tell stories that are original, commercial and universally resonant. The films that studios were producing in the ’80s and ’90s, that audiences around the world were clamoring for, and that have become all too rare today.”
Pathé and Vendôme had already struck a major blow with CODAthe remake of The Aries Family rewarded with three Oscars in 2022 including that of best film. They wish to perpetuate this fruitful collaboration through this new joint structure which has already launched the production of around ten feature films with budgets between 20 and 70 million euros, according to Le Figaro.
