Robert De Niro calls for resistance against Donald Trump
“Today we have a would-be king who wants to take everything back: King Donald I. Fuck that!”
Still as committed, as charismatic, Robert De Niro intends to influence American opinion.
And at a time when Democratic America is trying to stand up against the emerging authoritarianism of the Republican President, the 82-year-old actor has once again spoken out against Donald Trump, urging his fellow citizens to continue the mobilization.
Interviewed on MSNBC after Saturday’s nationwide “No Kings” protests, Robert De Niro called for resistance:
“We cannot let up. We absolutely cannot let up the pressure on him, because he is not going to leave the White House. He does not want to leave the White House. He will not leave the White House. Those who believe otherwise are deluding themselves.”
The “No Kings” protests on October 18 brought together nearly 7 million people across the United States denouncing the muscular migration policy of ICE, the reinforced presence of the National Guard in several large cities, and massive cuts in federal programs.
De Niro asks Americans not to let themselves be trampled without saying anything: “Politicians must be more afraid of the anger of the people than of that of Trump. The Republicans know it, but they follow it. This is a classic harassment situation. There is only one way to confront a bully: confront him, fight, and make him back down. This is the only solution.”
@indivisibleguide “King Donald The First. F*ck that.” Robert De Niro wants to see you in the streets on October 18 to show the world that America has no kings, and power still belongs to the people. #NoKings ♬ original sound – Indivisible ❌👑
The actor of Taxi Driver And Heat had already shown himself in video on the collective’s TikTok account Indivisible (see above), a few days before the rallies, to encourage Americans to participate:
“The first No Kings protest took place 250 years ago. Americans decided they no longer wanted to live under the rule of King George III. They declared their independence and fought a bloody war for democracy. Two and a half centuries later, it is still as essential as ever.”
And Robert De Niro concludes, more head-on than ever:
“Today, we have a potential king who wants to take everything back: King Donald I. Fuck that! We rise again, peacefully, to declare: No Kings.”
