Rumba la vie: Dubosc at his best
Franck Dubosc confirms the nice surprise of Tout le monde debout. An endearing comedy because it is powerfully sincere
While waiting to find him in Werewolves on Netflix, Franck Dubosc will be the star of the evening on the first channel: TF1 broadcasts Rumba lifehis own production released in theaters in August 2022. First highly recommend it to you.
For Franck Dubosc, there was a before and an after Everybody stand up. As an actor, he had certainly had greater successes. But never, until then, had the critics really looked at his work (and, with enthusiasm!) As if he were part of the furniture and nothing was expected of him. This first production therefore opened a path that is extended Rumba life where we find him as an old bachelor who has seen it all, who, after a heart problem, will confront his past by enrolling incognito in a dance class led by his daughter whom he has never met, hoping to reconnect with her.
As in Everybody stand up where his character pretended to be disabled, the lie is therefore at the heart of the story but is quickly exposed to tell, without this artifice, a father-daughter relationship in precarious construction, where, without departing from his humor, Dubosc cracks the armor more than usual. Then something becomes obvious: Dubosc as an actor has rarely been really watched (Bis constitutes an exception) by his various directors behind the mask of the comedian. It is therefore logical that he did not make his mark on the screen in his rare, more serious roles. It is also logical that he gives the full measure of his acting here. Because he has this look that is both sincere about himself as an actor and generous with his partners, never reduced to the rank of foils.
Too much in his quest for a happy ending, Rumba life is not without its flaws. But its disarming sincerity and its assumed first degree make the subject endearing and deeply moving from start to finish.
