Season 13 of American Horror Story will be “the Avengers” of the series according to Ryan Murphy

“They come together to defeat the ultimate evil…” All the great figures of the horror anthology will be brought together in a final battle, with the return of Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and many other cult faces.

Ryan Murphy is preparing a big meeting for season 13 of American Horror Story. While the first images had suggested a return to the universe of the witches of Coven, the creator of the series ultimately promises a much more ambitious reunion: all the seasons of the anthology will be brought together in the same chapter.

“Everyone thinks it’s going to be a season of Coven, but it’s not! It’s all the seasons together,” Murphy explained to Entertainment Tonight. The producer compares this new season to a real superhero crossover:

“Sarah Paulson plays five or six roles. Jessica Lange reprises all of her iconic characters. Evan Peters plays five characters, with of course Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd. It’s like the Avengers! They come together to defeat the ultimate evil.”

Rumors of a direct sequel to Coven had circulated after photos from filming surfaced showing Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts and other actors in witch costumes. But Murphy assures that the idea goes well beyond a simple return to season 3.

The creator also explained that several former cast members had refused to return over the years, only to change their minds when he presented his concept to them:

“When I pitched this idea to them, they said, ‘Well, OK, we have to come back for that.’

Even Jessica Lange, absent from the series for several years, would have been convinced by this proposition: “I presented the project to her and she replied: ‘Oh shit, now I have to do it!’

Simply titled American Horror Story: 13, this new season will have 13 episodes: “I spent many months and many years writing it. I wanted to do something special with this number 13”, specifies Ryan Murphy.

In the cast, we will therefore find Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd, but also Angela Bassett, John Waters and Paul Anthony Kelly. Ariana Grande was also scheduled to participate in the season, before withdrawing due to scheduling reasons related to her Eternal Sunshine tour.

Season 13 of American Horror Story will begin on September 24 and will be available in France on Disney+.
