Spider-Man doubles Star Wars at all-time box office

Still number 1 at the US box office with $39 million for its fourth weekend, Brand New Day has now reached $855 million in North America and $2.22 billion worldwide.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to weave its web at the top of the box office.

For its fourth weekend in American theaters, the Marvel blockbuster added another $39 million, largely retaining first place despite the arrival of several new releases.

The film, led by Tom Holland, has now grossed $855 million in North America and $2.22 billion worldwide.

A performance which above all allows it to take a new step in the historical rankings. With this new total, Brand New Day has in fact just exceeded Star Wars: The Force Awakenswho ended his worldwide career at $2.071 billion. The new Spider-Man is knocking on the door of the Top 5 biggest hits in world box office history, behind Avatar and its 2.9 billion, Avengers: Endgame and its 2.7 billion, Avatar: The Way of Water and its 2.3 billion, and a few greenbacks from the Chinese phenomenon of 2025, Ne Zha 2 and of Titanicto 2.27 billion after its various releases.

In other words, there is now only a hundred million dollars missing Brand New Day to overtake the historic podium. And given his current pace, it’s only a matter of days.

But it is especially on its American market that the phenomenon takes on a spectacular dimension.

With its 855 million, Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the third biggest hit of all time in the United States, behind Avengers: Endgame (858 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (936 million).

At the current rate, Brand New Day could exceed Star Wars: The Force Awakens this week and become the first film in history to cross the billion dollars mark on the North American market alone.

Behind the spider-man, Insidious: Invasion from the Far Away signs the second best performance of the American weekend with 25.3 million dollars in 3,303 theaters. The film adds 35 million internationally, for a worldwide start of $60 million. A launch lower than the 33 million achieved in North America by the previous part, Insidious: The Red Doorbut which remains very comfortable for a film produced for only 18 million dollars.

The Odyssey completes the podium with another $19.5 million for its sixth weekend, down just 17%. Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster has now reached $539 million in North America and $1.44 billion worldwide. It thus consolidates its place as the second biggest success of 2026.

Finally, Mutinythe action film by Frenchman Jean-François Richet starring Jason Statham, starts in sixth place with $7.5 million in 2,703 theaters. A disappointing result considering its budget of 40 million dollars, even if the film can count on a more favorable reception from the public than that from critics.
