Steven Spielberg wants to welcome aliens to Earth
The director of ET sees himself as the official ambassador of humanity against aliens. But Barack Obama is also in the running!
Who will represent Earth the day aliens finally arrive? The battle is already raging in Hollywood.
Guest of one of the last Late Show by Stephen Colbert, filmmaker Steven Spielberg has officially applied to become humanity’s ambassador in the face of possible alien life. And the director believes he has serious arguments against his main competitor: Barack Obama.
“I think I should be the one representing Earth!” Spielberg said to the applause of the audience, before adding with humor: “I love Barack. We are friends. I love his family…but he’s already had his eight years (in the White House)!”
It must be said that the filmmaker has an extraterrestrial CV that is difficult to beat. For more than forty years, Spielberg has shaped the alien imagination of American cinema with classics like AND, Close Encounters of the Third Kind Or The War of the Worldss. Without forgetting Disclosure Daywhich will be released in a few days in cinemas.
“My first film about aliens, I shot it at 17 in 8 mm, it was called Firelight…” recalls the filmmaker. “I spent my life playing a sort of role of ambassador for aliens in the cinema. And yet, they never showed themselves to me. It’s unfair!“
When Stephen Colbert suggested that aliens might be afraid of ending up in one of his films, Spielberg simply replied: “I don’t know… but I’m available, guys!“
The joke above all echoes a recent statement by Barack Obama, who also explained on the set of Late Show that he would do “a very good emissary of the planet“in the event of first extraterrestrial contact thanks to”his diplomatic experience” and his side “friendly“.
