Supergirl accepts comparison with Guardians of the Galaxy
A heroine in space, cosmic adventures, humor, action: it’s hard not to think of Star-Lord and his friends. A comparison that director Craig Gillespie ultimately considers quite logical.
Since the first photos and the first promotional elements of Supergirlmany fans find that the new DC film produced by James Gunn has a bit of an air of Guardians of the Galaxythe saga produced by James Gunn at Marvel…
It must be said that the next DC Universe film will bring together several ingredients that made the MCU space saga a success: a heroine launched into a galactic adventure, an offbeat universe, extraterrestrial creatures and a constant mix of humor and drama.
Asked about these comparisons by GamesRadarCraig Gillespie, who stars Milly Alcock in the role of Kara Zor-El, does not seek to avoid them:
“We operate in this territory, it’s true. But at the same time, it’s a universe in which I have always loved working…”
For him, these connections are almost inevitable given the genre:
“There aren’t an infinite number of superhero films in space either… And we are precisely in this vein of superhero films where there is this balance between humor, darkness and emotion, which I love!
The director therefore recognizes that Supergirl will share certain codes with the adventures of Star-Lord and his team. It remains to be seen whether the film will manage to forge its own identity within the new DC Universe led by James Gunn.
The feature film will be released on June 26, 2026 in France in cinemas.
