After its flop in the United States, the French release of this film with Emma Mackey is canceled

Ella McCay, the new film by James L. Brooks, was due to arrive in our cinemas on January 7.

The new film by James L. Brooks no longer has a release date in France. After its crash at the American box office, where it only collected 4 million dollars for a budget of 35 million, Disney simply decided not to exploit Ella McCay in French cinemas, where it was to be distributed by 20th Century Studios from January 7.

In this comedy-drama, Emma Mackey plays Ella McCay, “an idealistic young woman who tries to pursue her political career while managing her family life. She hopes to be able to return to the post of governor of the state, held for years by the man who taught her everything“, describes the film’s synopsis.

Around the Franco-British actress, we find in particular Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Loweden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Woody Harrelson and Julie Kavner (the American voice of Marge Simpson) as narrator, whom James L. Brooks knows very well as a historic producer of Simpson.

Brooks won the Academy Award for Best Director for his first feature film, Tender passionsin 1984. Ella McCay was his first film since How to know (2010), Jack Nicholson’s last film role.

Disney has not yet clarified whether Ella McCay would be released on VOD or directly on its streaming platform, Disney+.
