Sharknado 7: the killer sharks will be resurrected

As the title suggests, Sharknado Origins will take place before the very first 2013 film.

Hollywood believed Sharknado disappeared. But as in any good self-respecting nanar, the killer shark is never really dead…

While we thought the franchise had been buried since 2018, Sharknado returns once again to sow chaos. The studio The Asylum, which scored a surprise hit with its broke thriller where a tornado sucked in sharks before catapulting them to Los Angeles, is officially preparing Sharknado 7. A new opus in the form of a prequel which will be called straight Sharknado Origins. Yes, it’s a dream!

Filming is planned before the end of the year, with Anthony Ferrante returning to direct, he who directed the 6 previous parts. The casting is still unknown. But the release is scheduled for summer 2026.

As the title indicates, this new opus will take place before the very first film of 2013. We will discover a teenage version of Fin (played by Ian Ziering in all six films) and April (Tara Reid in the saga). The two meet during a summer on the beach, immediately flirting… until Fin is about to give a ring. The sky darkens, a gigantic funnel forms, and — obviously — sharks burst out of the ocean. This is how the very first is born Sharknado. Because, as the pitch summarizes: “Nothing resonates more with adolescent love than flying predators.”

Remember that the first Sharknado was born from a simple joke during a pitch at the American Film Market, before becoming a cultural phenomenon when it was released on television on the Syfy channel. Five sequels, three spinoffs and an avalanche of cameos followed: Olivia Newton-John, Al Roker, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jerry Springer, Ann Coulter, Jackie Collins, George RR Martin, David Hasselhoff…
