Leonardo DiCaprio confirms: he will be in Heat 2!

“This is the greatest criminal noir film of my life!” Leo is already very excited…

After months of rumors and more or less vague negotiations, it’s now official: Leonardo DiCaprio will be starring in Heat 2.

The actor confirmed it himself in an interview with Deadline, putting an end to a suspense that has agitated Hollywood since the announcement of the project.

Led by Michael Mann, this project Heat 2 will adapt the novel published in 2022 by Mann and Meg Gardiner. The book, already a best-seller, explores both what happened before and after the legendary heist in the 1995 film — a heist that remains, for many, a pinnacle of the urban thriller.

For months, DiCaprio was one of the names mentioned to join the production. The arrival of Christian Bale, announced just afterwards, had further muddied the waters.

Questioned by Deadline, DiCaprio therefore removed the doubt: yes, he will be in Heat 2. But he specifies that he and the production are still “in full discussion” regarding which character he will play. However, he remains very excited about the project:

“It’s very clearly a film in its own right, independent of the first installment. We’re still working on it, we’re a long way from shooting. It’s a film that salutes what Heat was, it’s an homage, and it picks up the story from there. The book already exists, so there are no secrets to preserve. The story takes place both in the future and in the past, starting from this pivotal moment in the greatest crime noir film of my lifetime.”

Leonardo DiCaprio also highlights the immense legacy of the original film:

“It’s one of those films that continues to resonate, that we still talk about, that has been imitated dozens of times and influenced so many filmmakers. We can’t duplicate what Heat was. We pay homage to it, but we want to make it something that has its own identity.”

Heat 2 currently has no official release date.
