Sydney Sweeney thinks he’s Godzilla in Euphoria: the crazy behind-the-scenes of a scene shot without VFX

For a year, the production built this real setting in which Cassie is having fun…

“The Cassie-Zilla sequence is probably the coolest thing I’ve ever done!”

Obviously, Sydney Sweeney had a blast on season 3 of Euphoria. Since the broadcast of the new episode of the HBO series, a hallucinatory sequence featuring a giant version of Cassie Howard has unleashed social networks. To the point of becoming one of the most commented on and controversial moments of Sam Levinson’s series.

In this totally crazy fantasy scene, Cassie, who has become a star of adult content on OnlyFans alongside Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie), transforms into a gigantic creature like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman crossed with Godzilla. As high as a building, she tramples Los Angeles while helicopters try to stop her. In voiceover, Rue Bennett announces: “She knew that this was her destiny: to triumph, to conquer, to win.”

The sequence is totally hallucinatory, to the point that some early fans accuse the series of having completely lost the thread of its beginnings. But we must recognize the audacity of Sam Levinson and the production: it took almost a year to build this enormous miniature set, and to film the sequence without any VFX.

That’s what we learn in this making-of video (below) which shows behind the scenes of a crazy shoot, where Sydney Sweeney ventures into a completely recreated downtown Los Angeles to shoot the scene without digital effects.

“There were trees, cars, and the buildings were my height,” says the actress, who confirms that behind the visual delirium, we must see above all a tragic evolution for Cassie: “I think she knows what she chooses and what she is ready to sacrifice to abandon herself to Hollywood and become famous…”
