The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power arrives unencrypted on M6

For the first time, the Amazon event series will be broadcast free of charge on French television, from November 14.

Middle Earth comes to M6.

The channel will broadcast the first season of the series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from Saturday November 14 in prime time, at 9:10 p.m., with two episodes per evening. The eight episodes will also be available for free streaming on M6+.

This is a first for this series of exceptional scale, which thus leaves the exclusivity of Prime Video to offer unencrypted broadcasting.

Launching in 2022, The Rings of Power is one of the most expensive television productions in history. The budget for the first season is estimated at several hundred million dollars, including adaptation rights. According to estimates from the American press, Amazon alone would have paid around 250 million dollars to acquire the rights to the universe of JRR Tolkien.

Like Peter Jackson’s cinema trilogies, the first season was filmed in New Zealand. On the music side, Howard Shore, composer of the films, wrote the main theme of the series, while Bear McCreary composed the original soundtrack.

This free broadcast could allow curious people to discover the series without needing to subscribe to Prime Video. It remains to be seen whether M6 will also offer season 2 immediately: the channel has not yet detailed the rest of its programming.

In any case, the timing is not trivial for Prime Video, since this unencrypted broadcast will put the spotlight on the series while season 3 of Rings of Power is expected on Prime Video at the same time, from November 11.
