The Maid 2 has a 2027 release date
Sydney Sweeney will return in the adaptation of the book The Secrets of the Housekeeper published in France in 2023.
After the surprise hit of 2025, the sequel to The Housekeeper is clarified: The Maid 2 (The Housemaid’s Secret) still worn by Sydney Sweeney, will be released in cinemas on December 17, 2027 (certainly December 15 in France).
A timing far from trivial. The first part, The Housekeeper created a surprise at the end of last year with nearly $400 million at the worldwide box office for a budget of $35 million. Started modestly, the thriller established itself over time, becoming one of the successes of the end-of-year holidays.
The Lionsgate studio intends to repeat the feat by positioning this sequel in the same strategic niche. The Maid 2 will be released on the same day as two behemoths: Avengers: Secret Wars And The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. A head-on competition, but assumed, with a more adult and sulphurous counter-programming. On the casting side, Sydney Sweeney reprises her role as Millie, alongside Michele Morrone, already present in the first film.
New major recruit: Kirsten Dunst, who joins this dark universe adapted from the bestselling novels by Freida McFadden. This second opus brings the book to the screen Secrets of the housekeeper published in France in 2023.
In this sequel, Millie accepts a new job working for a woman she is never allowed to see. A strange house, a locked door, and a truth that threatens to explode secrets even darker than its own… The program remains faithful to the recipe: tension, manipulation and toxic revelations.
As director, Paul Feig is back, as is screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, already working on the first. Filming is due to begin by the end of the year.
