The Mandalorian and Grogu 2: is a sequel planned?

Sigourney Weaver already wants to bring Baby Yoda back to the big screen. But it still seems compromised…

Is this a little film with no future? Or the beginning of a great cinema saga for The Mandalorian and Grogu ?

Sigourney Weaver, who makes her debut in the universe Star Wars in the role of Colonel Ward, does not hide his enthusiasm to return. In an interview with Total Film, the actress clearly said she was up for a sequel:

Well, in an ideal world, I would love to do another Mandalorian & Grogu, because it was so much fun working with Jon Favreau! I’m a big fan, and being in this universe, for me, was great. I really like my character, and I would like to work again with Pedro and his sidekick…”

And she goes further:

I think, secretly, we’re all hoping that this could spawn another film that takes us even further into the Outer Rim and onto new adventures…

Enough to launch speculation around a possible The Mandalorian and Grogu 2.

Except that on Lucasfilm’s side, this is not at all planned at this stage. A slew of other Star Wars films are already in sight, including Simon Kinberg’s new trilogy. And above all, the first critical feedback around Mandalorian and Grogu are very mixed…

Another point of tension: box office projections. With an estimated start of around $80 million for this Memorial Day weekend in the United States (where the film will be released on Friday), Jon Favreau’s feature film would achieve a decent score… but far from the standards expected for a saga Star Warswhich could complicate the start of a sequel. Because as always in Hollywood, everything will depend on the results. If The Mandalorian & Grogu still manages to approach the billion dollars worldwide, a sequel would become almost automatic. But otherwise…

If Grogu comes back one day – and obviously Disney will certainly want to continue banking on Baby Yoda in one way or another – he should instead return to Disney+, and switch back to a series format (with season 4 mentioned for a while), land where the Mandalorian remains one of Lucasfilm’s biggest successes.
