The restored version of Abel Gance’s Napoléon arrives on France Télévisions
The masterpiece of silent cinema will be broadcast in full on France 5.
He will finally be entitled to the honors he deserves! Almost 100 years after being made, the great Napoleon ofAbel Gance will be broadcast on France 5, in prime time, and in full. France Télévisions had first promised it for September 8, before canceling it. It was only a postponement. The public channel announced that the restored version of the 1927 feature film, which traces the life of Napoleon from his childhood in Italy until his end, would finally be broadcast on November 22, at 9 p.m. An epic split into two parts of 231 minutes and 207 minutes, a film of 7 hours and 18 minutes, to be devoured until the end of the night.
It should be noted that the exceptional result required 16 years of work within the Cinémathèque française and under the direction of Georges Mourier. The first 4 hours were shown at the Cannes Film Festival in the spring.
For those who do not have the patience to sit 7 hours in front of a silent and black and white film, the Napoleon ofAbel Gance will also be available free of charge immediately, on france.tv, for 30 days.
The film was released in theaters this summer.
