Tilly Norwood, Hollywood’s first AI “actress”, announces her first film

Particle 6, the studio specializing in AI productions, has just announced the development of Misaligned, a comedy-drama which will mark the debut of its virtual “actress” in the cinema.

Particle 6, the studio specializing in AI productions and behind the fake actress Tilly Norwood, has just announced the development of Misaligned (which could be translated as “Out of step” in French), a dramatic comedy which will mark the debut of its virtual star in the cinema.

Described as an initiatory story mixed with “existential chaos linked to AI”the film will take place in the so-called “Tillyverse” which is located somewhere in the Cloud. We will follow Tilly, an artificial intelligence devoid of body, childhood or personal memories, but capable of accessing those of everyone else. Her existence is turned upside down when a mysterious bot from the dark web pushes her to circumvent the safeguards that limit her, giving rise to desires, emotions and ambitions that are ever more… human.

For Particle 6, it is not a question of replacing artists, but of working with them.

The studio ensures that Misaligned will be developed by a team of directors, screenwriters, editors and traditional technicians, supported by specialists in artificial intelligence.

“Our work this year has confirmed what we’ve believed all along: AI can support ambitious narrative cinema, but only through a huge amount of human know-how, judgment and time“, explains Eline van der Velden, founder and managing director of Particle 6. “This is not a limitation of technology. This is precisely the point. The filmmakers who will succeed in the next ten years will be those who know how to put their experience at the service of these new tools.”

The announcement comes less than a year after the controversy caused by Tilly Norwood, who became the symbol of the fears of part of Hollywood regarding the rise of AI. When Particle 6 stated that its virtual actress was about to sign with an artistic agency, unions, actors and directors strongly denounced the growing place of artificial intelligence in creative professions.

Still in development, Misaligned is presented by its creators as a work that is at once funny, chaotic and deliberately meta. “The film will be about identity, performance and our very human fears in the face of AI. And yes, art will clearly imitate life“, promises Eline van der Velden.
