Two more old Malibu lifeguards to take part in Baywatch remake
Having passed through the beaches of David Hasselhoff at the time, Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard will also be part of the new series.
Fox producers continue to play the nostalgia card for their Baywatch reboot.
Two new emblematic figures of the cult series from the 1990s have just joined the cast: Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard.
The two actors will reprise their respective roles as Jack “JD” Darius and April Giminski. Their participation, however, is expected to remain limited to guest appearances, rather than regular roles within the series. In other words, they should show up in one or two episodes no more.
For long-time fans, these returns have a special flavor. Michael Bergin played JD Darius from season 8 to season 11, before returning to the character in the TV movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003. Kelly Packard, for her part, was part of the main cast of Baywatch naiads during seasons 8 and 9.
They thus join an already well-stocked list of former rescuers. David Chokachi will indeed reprise his role as Cody Madison while Erika Eleniak will also return as Shauni McClain for a special appearance.
The new generation will be led by Stephen Amell and Brooks Nader. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, Livvy Dunne, Nadia Gray and Mary McDonnell.
Behind the camera, Matt Nix, the creator of Burn Notice, serves as showrunner and executive producer. The first episode is directed by McG.
Produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, the series is currently filming in Los Angeles until July.
Originally broadcast between 1989 and 2001, Baywatch got off to a disastrous start, canceled after just one season before being saved and becoming one of the most watched series on the planet, with more than a billion weekly viewers at its peak.
This sequel to Baywatch is expected on Fox in the USA next January.
