Will the Eternals ever return to the MCU? “There is no plan”

Five years after the film’s release, Marvel has still not followed up on the plots left unresolved by the film. And Kit Harington suggests nothing is planned.

They are eternal only in name.

Obviously, the heroes of Chloe Zhao’s film are not intended to hang around on our screens. Five years after release of the Eternals in theaters, it seems that Marvel has decided to bury them for good.

This is what Kit Harrington suggests today, who would have been the first concerned by a possible sequel, never ordered.

In the post-credits scene, Dane Whitman opened a mysterious box containing the Ebony Blade, the cursed sword meant to transform him into the Black Knight. A voice off-camera then asked him if he was ready to handle it. A voice since confirmed to be that of Blade, played by Mahershala Ali. Except that 5 years later, nothing has come to materialize this promise. And Blade was put on the shelf.

Asked by MovieWeb about his possible return to the MCU, Kit Harington admits:

“J‘would love to come back and play Black Knight. But I don’t think there is a plan. Nothing is planned for that today.“

The former of Game of Thrones yet assures that he is still very attached to the character:

“I hate to break it to you like that, because I think he’s a great character. But that’s how it is. There was this whole story around the Ebony Blade: the more he kills, the deeper he goes, the more dependent he becomes on the sword. I thought it was a great metaphor for addiction. He is someone who begins in good and ends up falling into evil. I thought it was great. But hey… we’ll see. Maybe one day, I don’t know, if a project comes together…“

A frustration for fans, who were hoping to see Harington truly don the Black Knight costume after this post-credits scene. In the comics, Dane Whitman inherits this supernatural sword which gradually corrupts the wearer, offering the character a real moral dilemma. But Marvel Studios seems to have left aside most of the storylines started by The Eternals. None will be in Avengers: Doomsday a priori. Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo) recently said he had difficulty recovering from the abandonment of the saga.
