30 years or nothing will come back, but not with a sequel: it will be a reboot on Netflix.
The cult romantic comedy from the 2000s will get a new version led by Emily Bader and Logan Lerman, with a major advantage: Jennifer Garner, the unforgettable Jenna Rink, will be executive producer of the project.
In the original film, Garner played an awkward teenager magically propelled into the skin of her thirty-year-old self, who became the editor-in-chief of a magazine, brilliant… but completely lost. A pitch that has become cult, between comedy, romance and nostalgia.
Directing will be Brett Haley, who recently signed the Netflix adaptation of People We Met On Vacationalready with Emily Bader in the lead, therefore on the verge of becoming the heroine of rom-coms made in Netflix.
“30 Years Otherwise Nothing is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, moving, deeply human, with unforgettable performances”explains Haley, evoking in particular the original trio formed by Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer. “Revisiting this story comes with immense responsibility. And the fact that Jennifer Garner is involved makes the project even more special.”
The director also doesn’t hide his enthusiasm at the idea of directing Bader again: “She and Logan Lerman form a magical duo. I feel incredibly lucky to work on a project that means so much to so many people.”
The screenplay is by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson (The Princess Diaries 3, The High Note). No release date revealed.
For now, details of the story remain under wraps. We imagine that it will be a question of modernizing all that. The teenager who is uncomfortable in her skin will certainly not come from the 1980s but from the 2000s and therefore she will probably be 30 years old in 2026, discovering in the process social networks and other societal developments. Which means, therefore, that she will not dance the chorea of Thriller…
