Idris Elba makes his return as Luther! first images of the new film

Filmed in London, this sequel to Fallen Sun (2023) promises action, explosions and artificial rain, as the detective is called back to investigate a wave of brutal murders that threatens the capital.

London’s most tormented detective is back on duty. Idris Elba was seen filming the new film Luther, a direct sequel to Luther: Fallen Sun, released in 2023 on Netflix. The first images captured on set already give a glimpse of an explosive return.

Filming is currently taking place in several areas of London. Videos and photos taken on set show Idris Elba diving back into the skin of John Luther, the fallen inspector.

One of the most spectacular scenes was filmed near St Paul’s Cathedral. In the footage, Luther runs away from a car that explodes behind him. To reinforce the typically London atmosphere, the team even used artificial rain, while stuntmen performed the most dangerous sequences.

The film seems to return to the urban and dark atmosphere of the series. Where the end of Luther: Fallen Sun took the story to the icy landscapes of Iceland, this new adventure plunges Luther back into the heart of a sticky and threatening London.

The production also travels almost everywhere in the British capital. On February 18, the crew was spotted in the north of the city, near Parkland Walk and the Crouch End area, filming a particularly grueling bike chase at night.

On the story side, Netflix announces a plot where London is hit by a series of brutal and seemingly random murders. Faced with chaos, Luther is secretly called back to investigate. But this time, the mission promises to be even more perilous: hunted on all sides, the detective will have to stop the killer… while trying to stay alive.

Filming is expected to continue until May in the UK. No date announced yet.
