Trailer: the new series Big Bang Theory goes into total sci-fi

When the little comic book seller from Pasadena finds himself propelled into the multiverse…

From Cal Tech laboratories to pure science fiction, there is only one step that Stuart will take… despite himself.

Seven years after the end of The Big Bang Theory, the loser comic book store owner will star in a brand new spin-off series, titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. HBO Max has just revealed the trailer at the Warner Bros. Upfront. Discovery in New York. A video which shows how he and his friends (Denise, Bert and Barry) will find themselves propelled into different parallel worlds, each more horrible than the other. In one of them, Kripke will even be a beloved Emperor! How to get back? How to save the multiverse? The mission promises to be tense for poor Stuart, who was more used to reading this kind of adventure in his comics.

The series, composed of ten episodes, will be available for streaming on HBO Max from Friday July 24 in France, with new episodes broadcast every Friday.

Synopsis: “Stuart Bloom, owner of a bookstore specializing in comic books, must restore reality after breaking a device designed by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally causing a multiversal cataclysm. In this quest, Stuart is helped by his girlfriend Denise, his geologist friend Bert and Barry Kripke, quantum physicist and real pain in the ass. Throughout their adventure, they encounter alternative versions of characters we know and love from “The Big Bang Theory”. But as suggested the title of the series, everything will not go as planned.”

In development since April 2023, the series is co-created by TBBT’s dad, Chuck Lorre, with Zak Penn and Bill Prady. It is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

In the casting, Kevin Sussman (Stuart) will now be the star – after narrowly missing the role of Leonard 20 years ago – accompanied by Lauren Lapkus (Denis), Brian Posehn (Bert) and John Ross Bowie (Barry).

The original music will be by Danny Elfman, Oscar-winning composer best known for his collaborations with Tim Burton and the theme songs for The Simpsons.

With this project, the franchise offers itself a fourth series after the original series, the prequel Young Sheldon (finished in 2024) and its spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
