The Odyssey breaks a new historic record at the global box office
Christopher Nolan’s film becomes the biggest success in history for an R-rated film and surpasses Deadpool & Wolverine.
The journey is not over for The Odyssey.
Christopher Nolan’s new film has just become the biggest success in history for an R-rated film in the United States, now grossing $1.352 billion worldwide.
The blockbuster thus dethrones Deadpool & Wolverinewhich ended its career at 1.338 billion dollars in 2024. Released on July 17, The Odyssey has already raised $516 million in North America and $835 million internationally.

The handover was also welcomed by Ryan Reynolds, actor and creative force behind the franchise Dead Pool. On X, he congratulated the film team: “Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.”
It is also the fifth film of the year 2026 to exceed $1 billion, and only the third R-rated film in history to reach this milestone, after Joker And Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Odyssey is currently the 24th biggest success in the history of world cinema, at the same level as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 and Black Panther. And he owes it in large part to the IMAX theater jackpot, for which he now holds the record with 354 million, ahead of Avatar.
