France Télévisions pays tribute to Marjane Satrapi

Persepolis will air this Friday evening.

Thursday, we learned of the sudden disappearance of Marjane Satrapi, a major figure in contemporary cinema and author of Persepolisthe cult film adapted from his own comic book.

The Iranian-born filmmaker found success with her animated film Persepolisnominated for an Oscar for best animated film, awarded the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 and two Césars (best adaptation and best first film).

Tehran, 1978. This autobiographical tale tells the story of the overflowing Marjane, from her childhood to adulthood. As Iran goes to war with Iraq and the rebellious teenager thirsts for freedom, her parents decide to send her to Austria to protect her. There, Marjie experiences exile, her first loves, grief and poverty, before returning to her native lands…

The cast includes the voices of Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Danielle Darrieux, Simon Abkarian and Gabrielle Lopes Benites.
