Christian Bujeau, the unforgettable Visitors dentist, died at 81

Revealed to the general public thanks to the role of the unfortunate Jean-Pierre Goulard in the cult comedy by Jean-Marie Poiré, Christian Bujeau died this Monday.

Trained at the prestigious National Conservatory of Dramatic Art, Christian Bujeau led a rich career in theater, television and cinema for more than fifty years. But for several generations of spectators, his face will forever be associated with one of the most cult characters of Visitors.

In 1993, Jean-Marie Poiré gave him the role of Jean-Pierre Goulard, the dentist married to Béatrice de Montmirail, played by Valérie Lemercier. An ordinary man whose existence will be turned upside down by the arrival of Godefroy de Montmirail and Jacquouille la Fripouille in the 20th century. Horrified by Jacquouille’s escapades, constantly overshadowed by this prestigious ancestor, and consumed by jealousy towards Godefroy de Montmirail, the character of Bujeau became one of the most memorable comic springs of the film. He will also find this role in Visitors 2: The Corridors of Time in 1998.

A few years later, Christian Bujeau will have another opportunity to showcase his comedic timing, this time on the small screen. Between 2004 and 2009, he left his mark on fans of Kaamelott by playing the formidable master-at-arms of King Arthur opposite Alexandre Astier. With his scathing one-liners and legendary disregard for his students’ martial skills, he appears in some of the series’ most popular episodes.

Still with the Astiers, Christian Bujeau also participates in humorous fantasy Hero Corpwhere he played The Lord between 2008 and 2013, opposite Simon Astier.

More recently, the actor appeared in Alibi.com. But for many, he will remain this dentist overwhelmed by events, helpless witness to the chaos sown by Jacquouille…
