The creators of Stranger Things are finally preparing their first real cinema film

After conquering Netflix with Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer will direct a mysterious feature film for Paramount. An important step for the two brothers, who had long dreamed of making their place on the big screen.

The after-Stranger Things becomes clearer for Matt and Ross Duffer. The creators of the Netflix phenomenon series will write and direct a new film for Paramount, the release of which is already set for November 3, 2028 in the United States.

For the moment, the studio is keeping the project completely secret. Neither the title nor the plot have been revealed, but the feature film will be developed by their production company, Upside Down Pictures, and will benefit from a worldwide theatrical release.

Even if their name is today associated with Stranger Thingsthe Duffer brothers have already directed a feature film.

In 2015, they signed Hiddena post-apocalyptic thriller quietly released direct-to-video after several years of delay. The film, however, attracted the attention of Mr. Night Shyamalan, seduced by their scenario to the point of recruiting them as writers on the series Wayward Pines. A few months later, the two brothers launched Stranger Thingswhich in the summer of 2016 became Netflix’s first huge original success and one of the most popular series of the decade.

While the fifth and final season of Stranger Things completed the adventure, the Duffers recently left Netflix to sign a four-year exclusive contract with Paramount Pictures. This agreement covers cinema, television and streaming, with priority given to ambitious projects intended for the big screen.

The merger with Paramount is not a coincidence. The brothers notably find Cindy Holland, the former director of Netflix who had validated Stranger Things at the time, as well as several other collaborators with whom they had worked on the platform.

After building one of the most important franchises of the streaming era, the creators of Stranger Things will therefore try to succeed where many showrunners fail: to transform their television success into a real career as filmmakers.

And even if Paramount is still keeping all the details secret, a film signed by the creators of Stranger Things is already among the most intriguing projects expected for 2028.
