Mads Mikkelsen plays John Lennon in The Last Viking: trailer

A pure Danish black comedy about a story of buried loot and identity confusion.

No offense to Harris Dickinson, who will play the famous Beatle in Sam Mendes’ mega biopic, Mads Mikkelsen is John Lennon. At least that’s what Manfred, the character he plays in The Last Vikingsuffering from severe dissociative identity disorder.

Things are bad for Anker, his bank robber brother, freshly released from prison after a 15-year sentence. The latter had entrusted him with his loot before his arrest, but as Manfred is no longer himself, he has no idea where he buried it. Which will lead the two brothers on a journey rich in adventures.

After Dancing lights, The Green Butchers, Adam’s Apples, Men and Chicken and Riders of JusticeMikkelsen reunites for the sixth time with director Anders Thomas Jensen, grand master of Danish black comedy, a genre that fits the star of Drunktotally freewheeling in the first images of the film. Nikolaj Lie Kaas, another favorite actor of the filmmaker, plays his brother.

Presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2025, The Last Viking will be released in France on July 15. Trailer:
