Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez reunite in animated sci-fi film

The Illumination studio is preparing a brand new original project, called Not Alone, a romantic and extraterrestrial adventure expected in 2027.

While waiting to see it in the cinema at the end of the year in Dune 3Timothée Chalamet has just signed for a new SF project.

Illumination, the studio that conquered the 2026 box office with Super Mario Galaxy Before Minions 3is preparing a brand new original film.

Baptized Not Alonethis animated science fiction film will bring together for the first time on screen – or rather behind a microphone – Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez, in a romantic and extraterrestrial adventure expected in 2027.

Three years after announcing its desire to develop more original films outside of franchises Despicable me the Illumination studio takes action with Not Aloneunveiled during the Annecy Festival which is currently being held.

The story will follow Joe, a lone rocket mechanic voiced by Timothée Chalamet, and Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist played by Selena Gomez, who is working on the first ever plant-powered rocket.

“When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, sparks immediately fly between them, even though neither is particularly gifted when it comes to romance.” details the synopsis. Their life becomes complicated when three little aliens, turbulent and adorable, find refuge at Joe’s house. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the run through space, pursued by an overzealous and incompetent law enforcement officer named Zandro. The aliens then realize that Fran’s rocket could allow them to return home safely“.

The three aliens will be voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou, while Brett Goldstein will lend his voice to Agent Zandro. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris also round out the voice cast.

The film will be directed by Frenchman Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val, all three veterans of the franchise The Minions. In production, we find the boss of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, accompanied by Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld.

Not Alone is expected in theaters on April 16, 2027.
