Pierre Lottin will play Louis de Funès in a biopic

Filming will begin in 2027 and will tell the story of the man behind the legend of French cinema.

After Edith Piaf, Simone Signoret and Yves Montand or Charles Aznavour, it is Louis de Funès who will soon be entitled to his biopic.

UGC is preparing a feature film dedicated to the legend of French comedy, with Pierre Lottin in the lead role, as revealed by Le Film Français.

A choice which may surprise, but which was imposed very early on by producer Romain Rojtman, determined to tell the story of the man behind the icon of popular cinema.

The film will be directed by Benjamin Euvrard, also co-author of the screenplay with Benjamin Dumont, Ingrid Morley-Pegge and Charly De Witte. Filming is due to begin in April 2027, between Paris and Italy, notably on the land where the film was filmed. Le Corniaud.

According to the producer, the feature film will not look back on the entire career of Louis de Funès, but will focus on the moment when everything changed. The story will begin in 1964, a pivotal year during which the actor continued Pouic-Pouic, The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez, Le Corniaud And Ghosts. The ambition is to show the actor before he becomes the monument of French cinema that everyone knows.

For Romain Rojtman, Pierre Lottin was obvious. He explains that he sought to cast “an immense actor. Pierre has a rare ability to make people laugh and move people. He is deeply popular and he works enormously. His challenge will be to embody the truth of Louis de Funès, not simply his facial expressions.”

He then specifies that the film will be made with “the agreement of the Funès family.”

The project is now entering its financing phase. No release date announced yet.
