Christopher Nolan won’t make another film for at least three years
When will Nolan’s next film be released? Not right away! Exhausted by filming his Homeric epic, the British director is planning a long break.
What will Christopher Nolan’s next film be after The Odyssey ?
We don’t know anything about it yet. But we know it won’t come out tomorrow.
After devoting several years to his ancient epic, the British filmmaker plans to slow down. Guest of the American show Todaythe new darling of cinemas has revealed that he will not direct a new film before “at least three years“, the time to recover from a shoot that he describes as the most trying of his career.
“I really reached the limits of my own endurance, and I think also that of the whole team. It’s The Odyssey. Obviously it must have been difficult… If making a film about The Odyssey doesn’t seem difficult, it’s because we didn’t do our job correctly!“
Adapting Homer’s poem was not only an artistic challenge. Christopher Nolan also pushed technical boundaries by making The Odyssey the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. A long-standing ambition that the filmmaker was finally able to realize, but which left him bloodless:
“It’s been a nightmare…in the worst and best sense of the word. The sea, above all: we spent four months on the waves. It was terrifying, wonderful, horrible…“, confides Nolan in the latest issue of Première, currently on newsstands. He admits to us the difficulty of such a challenge: “On this film, we clearly pushed the limits of physical endurance, both the crew and the actors. Everyone was exhausted at the end… but that’s probably the price of a trip like this.“
The director will come out of this Odyssey with a new commercial triumph. After the phenomenon Oppenheimerhis peplum marks the biggest global launch of Christopher Nolan’s career. A success which will now allow him to take the time before choosing his next project.
