Colman Domingo to write live-action version of The Princess and the Frog for Disney

The star of The Four Seasons on Netflix and of Michael at the cinema will write a live-action film around Tiana.

He was everywhere this year, Four Seasons from Netflix to the success of Michael to the cinema via the new Spielberg, Disclosure Day and of course the final season ofEuphoria.

Colman Domingo is now in negotiations with Disney to write a live-action film centered on Tiana, the heroine of The Princess and the Frog.

The project is still in its early stages of development and will not be a remake of the 2009 animated classic. Disney is instead working on an original story inspired by the universe of the film, with Princess Tiana at the heart of the story. This new live-action version will be directed by Robert O’Hara.

In the animated feature film, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, Tiana is a young waitress from New Orleans in the 1920s who dreams of opening her own restaurant. Her destiny changes when she meets a prince transformed into a frog and kisses him in an attempt to lift the spell… before being transformed herself.

Upon its release, The Princess and the Frog had grossed just $267 million at the worldwide box office – and landed three Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature. Despite the abandonment of a spin-off series dedicated to Tiana, Disney continued to capitalize on the popularity of the character, notably by transforming the Splash Mountain attraction of its parks into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

This new project is part of a particularly prosperous period for Colman Domingo, who will begin filming Unforgettablea biopic dedicated to Nat King Cole, of which he will this time be director, producer and main performer.
