A biopic in the small world of the NFL to watch on Prime Video next November.
In France, it’s a name that speaks especially to video game players.
Madden is the name of the American football license from publisher EA Sports (the equivalent of FIFA if you like). But behind the brand hides a man. A legendary coach and a historic commentator on NFL evenings on American TV.
Nicolas Cage becomes John Madden in David O. Russell’s new feature film (The Kings of the Desert, Happiness Therapy). And the trailer put online today by Amazon promises a biopic that looks like a success story (see below).
“The film traces Madden’s exceptional journey – from his successful partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to the creation of Madden NFL, to becoming one of the most iconic voices in American football history“, announces the studio.
The film traces the incredible trajectory of John Madden: a promising player whose career ended prematurely due to injury, he became one of the most memorable coaches in the NFL, leading the Oakland Raiders to ten consecutive seasons and a Super Bowl XI title. In 1978, at just 42 years old, he retired… after 100 victories under his belt.
Christian Bale plays legendary Raiders owner Al Davis.
Died in December 2021 at the age of 85, John Madden left his mark on several generations. Al Davis, his loyal ally and friend, passed away in 2011. The film promises to explore not only their friendship, but also how they redefined the NFL.
The cast also includes John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, the visionary creator of Electronic Arts, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis.
Madden will be released on November 18 on Prime Video in France.
