The X-Men Sentinels will be back in Avengers: Doomsday with a new design

Seen briefly in the trailer, the famous metal giants make a notable appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this week.

The Sentinels will be part ofAvengers: Doomsdayand they will be entitled to a completely new appearance.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios displayed the decapitated head of one of these famous mutant-hunting robots at its booth, giving fans a first look at their remodeled design.

Gone is the futuristic and smooth look of the Sentinels of X-Men: Days of Future Past (2016). This new version adopts a much more massive, mechanical and militarized style, directly inspired by comics. A development which was widely welcomed by fans, delighted to see Marvel getting closer to the original aesthetic imagined on paper.

Created by Bolivar Trask, the Sentinels are robots designed to hunt down and exterminate mutants. Their presence in Avengers: Doomsday had already been confirmed in the third trailer for the film, where Cyclops, once again played by James Marsden, confronts them with optical rays.

The copy exhibited at Comic-Con, however, appears to be in very poor condition: its decapitated head reveals cables and internal components. A detail which suggests that, despite their power, these formidable machines will not be invincible against the heroes of the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday will bring together the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four for the first time. The trailer has already revealed a spectacular clash between the Avengers and the mutants, before the different teams are forced to join forces to face a much greater threat: Doctor Doom, but also these new Sentinels, whose arrival should prepare the ground for Avengers: Secret Wars (expected in 2027).

Avengers: Doomsday is expected in French theaters on December 16, 2026.
