Box office France: Christopher Nolan races towards a new record with The Odyssey
His Homeric epic continues to attract crowds to theaters, in the heart of summer, while La Bataille de Gaulle crosses the 4 million admissions milestone!
The Odyssey continues its irresistible journey through French cinemas.
For its second week of release, Christopher Nolan’s film still attracted 1.6 million spectators in 758 theaters, with attendance down only 10%. An exceptional performance which already allows it to cross the 3 million mark, with exactly 3.4 million tickets sold in two weeks.
At this rate, the adaptation of Homer should quickly become the biggest success of Nolan’s career in France, surpassing Oppenheimer and its 4.5 million admissions in 2023, as well as The Dark Knight Rises and its 4.4 million spectators (in 2012).
Already the fifth most viewed film of the year in France, The Odyssey returns on the heels of Toy Story 5which slows down significantly after six weeks. The latest Pixar now only adds around 300,000 admissions per week and reaches 4 million spectators in France.
The Nolan tidal wave seems to have sucked up much of the summer audience, leaving his competitors far behind.
The live action remake of Moana attracts around 350,000 spectators for its third week and exceeds 1.5 million admissions, while Minions and monsters adds 240,000 tickets and is now close to 2.5 million spectators.
The family blockbusters seem to have come to an end and the box office will have to rely on new locomotives for the coming month of August.
There will obviously be Spider-Man: Brand New Day which comes out this week, while The Odyssey should continue to collect entries. But French cinema also benefits from this dynamic.
The stuffing From the French Comedy got off to a remarkable start with nearly 360,000 admissions in just 426 theaters, driven by very good reviews. An excellent launch which promises a great summer career for the film carried by Pauline Clément and her comrades from the institution.
Finally, The Battle of Gaulle confirms its endurance.
With attendance still solid (around -15%), the two components The Iron Age And I write your name still attract 180,000 and 250,000 spectators respectively.
The diptych by Antonin Baudry thus crosses the threshold of 4 million cumulative admissions, a great success for French cinema.
