Game of Thrones movie about Aegon the Conqueror has a theatrical release date

The first feature film dedicated to Westeros will be released in theaters in June 2029. It will tell the story of Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of the kingdom, centuries before the events of the series.

Winter is coming… at the cinema.

We will still have to wait a few years. Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquestthe first film from the universe imagined by George RR Martin, has just secured a release date: June 1, 2029 in the United States (the French date remains to be confirmed).

As its title suggests, the film will tell the story of the conquest of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen, founder of the dynasty that would rule the Seven Kingdoms for nearly three centuries. The story will therefore take place several hundred years before Game of Thrones.

No names have yet been announced for the casting. Aegon has never appeared on screen live and it is currently unknown who will play him.

It should be noted that there is in the bonuses of the DVD/Blu-Ray box set of season 7 of Game of Thronesan animated miniseries titled Conquest & Rebellion of approximately 45 minutes, entirely dedicated to how Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters subjugated Westeros with their dragons…

The live-action feature film that will be released in theaters will necessarily repeat the same story and the same events, certainly pushing the dramatic sliders.

This movie Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be directed by Owen Harris, already at the helm of several episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsthe recent spin-off series dedicated to Duncan the Great. The British director has mainly directed television episodes (Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone…) so far. We still owe him a feature film: Kill Your Friendsan indie thriller that went unnoticed in 2015.

The scenario of Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will be written by Beau Willimon, creator of House of Cards and screenwriter ofAndor.

A priori, the writer George RR Martin will be associated with the project as a producer.

The Targaryen family will therefore go back to its origins, from the flight from a burning Valyria to its thunderous entry into Westeros, led by Aegon and his sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, around 300 years before Daenerys.

The film will arrive after the end of House of the Dragon which will be entitled to a fourth and final season, certainly in 2028 on HBO, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could be the last series GOT still standing at the time of theatrical release.
