Lanterns: Season 2 is not at all guaranteed
Peter Safran, the boss of DC Studios, is waiting for the writers to find a sequel worthy of the first season before giving the green light.
Will John Stewart return to the small screen?
We know that he will be appearing in Superman: Man of Tomorrow next year at the cinema. But in a season 2 of Lanterns?
Peter Safran, the co-boss of DC Studios, confirmed that the future of the series would depend above all on the quality of its sequel. A season 2 is possible, but nothing is certain.
Questioned by Collider, Safran specified that the decision should be announced “before the end of the year”, without giving a more precise date.
The boss of DC Studios above all set one condition: the writers will have to find a story worthy of the first season:
“If we can imagine what we consider to be a worthy successor to a great and beloved first season, that will determine whether there will be a second season…”
Broadcast over eight episodes, season 1 ended in early October 2026 by providing answers to the central mystery of the death of Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).
The finale also revealed the identity of the second Manhunter and showed how John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) becomes Earth’s only Green Lantern, before the events of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn’s next film.
The audiences have in any case given HBO reasons for hope: each episode of Lanterns brought together an average of 12 million viewers in the United States, and nearly 19 million including internationally.
