The film in theaters: Club kid by Jordan Firstman

King of the queerest and most popular parties in New York, Peter one day sees a 10-year-old son come into his life whose existence he never suspected. And so he is forced to improvise as a father… Club Kid begins like a Safdie brothers film and shifts into an atmosphere like Like a Boy with Hugh Grant. An excellently controlled 180° turn. Because on both sides of the camera, Jordan Firstman shows himself as comfortable in the world of supercharged dance floors as in the intimacy of building the relationship between these two characters, the most mature of whom is obviously not the most adult. An exhilarating – and moving – feel good movie which triumphed at the Deauville American Film Festival after its presentation at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section.

The series: Anatomy of a moment

A fascinating dive into a little-known episode in Spanish history, when a military putsch almost rocked the young democracy the day after Franco’s death. Adapted from the novel by Javier Cercas, this mini-series in four episodes meticulously dissects the events of February 23, 1981 – the hostage-taking of parliamentarians organized by a few generals resistant to change – and the delicate political negotiations of the democratic transition. An edifying and brilliantly instructive work, but also very didactic even if it means stifling emotion.
