A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: the “poop” scene explained by its creator

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: season 2 is already filming

“The idea is to have an annual rhythm,” confides the boss of HBO, who is already revealing his ambition for the broadcast date of the sequel to his series derived from Game of Thrones.

Dunk and Egg’s adventures have only just begun. And they could even last much longer than expected…

While the finale of the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be uploaded this Monday in France on HBO Max, the series derived from Game of Thrones has long since been officially renewed for a season 2. Moreover, production has already started.

Filming for this season 2 began in December 2025 in Belfast, a historic bastion of productions linked to the universe of Westeros. Because HBO boss Casey Bloys wants to return to a regular broadcast rhythm (via Deadline):

“They are currently filming season 2! The idea is to have an annual rhythm. We try to do that for all our series – it’s not possible for each one – but when it’s creatively feasible, we want to achieve it.”

If production follows this sustained schedule, season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms should therefore logically arrive in January 2027 on HBO Max.

And we understand that HBO wants to bring Dunk back every beginning of the year for a while.

If the prequel saga inspired by the universe of George RR Martin only has three short stories to adapt, the novelist is very involved in the writing. And he has other ideas in store, to expand the saga of Duncan the Great.

“It’s entirely possible to go beyond the works,” confirms Bloys. “But that would be a discussion to have with showrunner Ira Parker and George Martin. We’ll see. They’re producing season 2 as we speak, and a season 3 should follow. I haven’t looked into what might be possible after that yet, but if he has other stories, that will definitely be a topic of discussion.”

In the meantime, the next season will adapt “The Liege Sword”, the second short story in George RR Martin’s collection, as Parker confirms in an interview with AV Club. The story introduces several emblematic characters and he specifies: “We now tackle The Liege Sword, which is in many ways my favorite short story, with Rohanne Webber, aka the Red Widow, Ser Bennis and Ser Eustace, characters who have become cult.” He specifies:

“I can’t say much, but we have three absolutely brilliant actors who are going to play these roles. I can’t wait. We’re editing a few scenes, and the directors are already previewing a few. It’s nice to see season 2 take shape little by little.”

Note that the other GOT series, namely House of the Dragon, will broadcast its season 3 this summer. And, she already has an end date in sight: season 4 will be the last.
