Hong Kong master to star in upcoming film Karate Kid announced today, alongside Ralph Macchio !
Sony Pictures announces that this new sequel “will merge and continue the mythology of the original film“. It must be remembered that since the Karate Kid from 1984, we were treated to two direct sequels (The Moment of Truth 2 in 1986 then Karate Kid 3 in 1989), a spin-off carried by Hilary Swank (Miss Karate Kid in 1994), the remake Karate Kid from 2010 and finally the series Cobra Kaifeaturing historical characters.
The new story will mix all that and bring the characters to the East Coast, replaying the hit of “this Chinese teenager who finds strength and direction through martial arts and a tough but wise mentor“. It is unclear whether the mentor in question will be Jackie Chan Or Ralph Macchio. But the young boy is actively sought! A global casting call has been officially launched to recruit a very young Chinese actor who will be the new Karate Kid !
The new movie Karate Kid, as yet untitled, will be released in cinemas on December 13, 2024. It will be carried out by Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World). The screenplay is written by Rob Lieber (Goosebumps 2).
