A touch of love on Canal Plus: a road trip without taboos (review)

Julia Piaton, Quentin Dolmaire and Gregory Gadebois embark on a journey to Spain in this unusual comedy.

Released last April in cinemas, A touch of love by Maël Piriou is broadcast for the first time this Tuesday on Canal Plus, and can be seen in streaming on MyCanal.

Synopsis: Mélanie, a lawyer, suffering from an incurable illness, decided that it was time to enjoy life! She takes Benjamin, her lifelong friend, on a journey to Spain. Here they are aboard a dilapidated van, driven by Lucas, a gruff driver released from prison the day before. Unlike Mélanie, Benjamin does not seem to be in a hurry to arrive and does everything to prolong this improbable journey by her side…

The criticism of First :

For his first feature, Maël Piriou therefore chose to try his hand at the remake ofHasta la vista (2011) which narrates with a certain art of moving comedy the adventures of three young men with disabilities going to Spain to lose their virginity in a brothel. A remake orchestrated based on the same idea of the road movie and the taboo question of the sexuality of disabled people but changing the characters.

Here they are a lawyer and her best friend, both in wheelchairs, who undertake this journey, led in spite of themselves by a client of this lawyer. And the strength ofA hint of love lies in the writing of this female character, a fairly self-centered troop leader and unsympathetic from the outset whose apparent confidence will be shattered by her complex relationship with her body and her way of considering sexuality.

Julia Piaton is still remarkable and the trio she forms with Quentin Dolmaire and Gregory Gadebois constitutes the major asset of the film.
