After Carrie and The Exorcist, Mike Flanagan dreams of tackling Jaws

The creator of The Haunting of Hill House would like to relaunch another major horror franchise. With one idea in mind: to make people forget the failed sequels to Steven Spielberg’s classic.

Mike Flanagan is definitely not afraid of the sacred monsters of horror.

While he is currently revisiting Carrie in series for Prime Video and is preparing a new film The Exorcistexpected in 2027, the filmmaker revealed another franchise that he would dream of resuming: Jaws.

Asked by fans during a Reddit Q&A session hosted by Prime Video, Flanagan didn’t beat around the bush

“Honestly, I would love to be able to make a Jaws movie!”

The director also cited a film with dinos among his desires:

“A Jurassic movie could be great too. I would like to do something really scary with it. A real horror movie with dinosaurs would be great.”

The filmmaker also explained that his view of franchises had evolved.

He, who for a long time thought of avoiding sequels and pre-existing universes, now appreciates the idea of working in a fictional world that he knows, respects and loves. An approach that could work wonders with the great white shark imagined by Peter Benchley and brought to the screen by Steven Spielberg in 1975.

Flanagan also has real admiration for the original film, while believing that there is still room to redress the situation after its sequels.

“Jaws is another example of a movie that no one will EVER come close to in the original, but there is a ton of room for improvement in the sequels.“

After Spielberg’s classic, we had Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3 (1983) and even Jaws 4: Revenge (1987).

Enough to leave Mike Flanagan with quite a playground to imagine a new aquatic terror. But for now, absolutely nothing concrete in sight.

Before swimming with the sharks, the filmmaker will already have to drown the demon in his film The Exorcist: Martyrsexpected in theaters on March 10, 2027.
