Ahead of Season 2, Find Out How The Rings of Power Were Forged (Video)

Mystical objects from Tolkien mythology, they will be at the heart of this new season.

What would Tolkien’s universe be without his rings of power? After being unmasked in the first season, Sauron shifts into high gear, determined to bring Middle-earth under his thumb. As seen in the trailer for season 2 of the Rings of Power, To carry out his plan, the latter will need several rings. To do this, he takes the appearance of an elf, Annatar, and with the help of Celebrimbor, he forges what are now known as the rings of power. Three for the Elves. Seven for the Dwarf lords. And nine for Men… In the calculation, only the Unique is missing, and the count is correct.

If in the series, Sauron and the elves are the blacksmiths, in reality, it is otherwise. To wait before the broadcast of the first episode, Prime Video has unraveled the mystery of the rings in a short video, shown last weekend to the public of the Comic-Con of San Diego.

At the origins, a ring from Nordic mythology: the Niebelungen ring. Whoever possesses it subdues all beings. It is the latter that inspired the British author for his mystical object, explains John Howe, artistic director on The Rings of Power. A leading illustrator for Tolkien’s works, he, along with his colleague Alan Lee, designed Tolkien’s entire pictorial universe. Together, they were in charge of the artistic direction of all the film adaptations directed by Peter Jackson. It is therefore quite naturally to him that the creation of the rings visible in the series turns. From a stroke of a pencil to a mouse stroke, to end his journey towards a workshop where a jeweler carries out a real goldsmith’s work.

But behind their sumptuous appearance, they contain a deep evil that will cause the ruin of all those who possess them. Charlie Vickers, the interpreter of Sauron confirms it:

“These rings begin to influence the subconscious, and they bring evil rather than good.”

In this dark journey that awaits each of the characters, the most extraordinary, according to the actor lending his features to the young Elrond (Robert Aramayo) will be: “to be able to connect with these rings, and ask questions like: what do they mean, what do they do to us, what do they do to others too…”

The answers to these questions will be provided on August 29, the date on which season 2 of Rings of Power will be available on Prime Video.
